5 marketing blogs I love

Seth Godin’s blog
If you’re in communication or business, you’ve probably heard of guru Seth Godin. He’s one of the most influential marketers and entrepreneurs today. He coined the phrase permission marketing, and all he asks of businesses is that they think small and be remarkable.

Futurelab’s Marketing & Strategy Innovation Blog
Futurelab is a communication consultancy based in Europe (plus one office in Shanghai). Their focuses are strategy, innovation, marketing and design.
Their blog aggregates some of the most brilliant minds on the scene – including Guy Kawasaki, MIT Advertising Lab’s Ilya Vedrashko, and Experience Designer Dave Armano, to name a few.

iMedia Connection

Marketing ROI: Whims from Ron Shevlin
Ron spent nine years as a Research Director and Principal Analyst at Forrester Research, which means he’s much smarter than you are. Ron’s insights are poignant, sometimes sassy, and rich with direct application.
He provides serious takeaway for all marketers, but is especially relevant for those in financial services.

Creating Passionate Users
I can’t say enough about this blog. Kathy Sierra and company regularly blow me away with in-depth and occasionally hilarious discussion of consumer experience, marketing and business.
This blog will tickle your brain, and you’ll like it.

I also read Seth’s blog and Creating Passionate Users regularly. I’ll have to check out Futurelab – thanks for the tip.
Here are some of my other favorites:
Adrants. A snarkier look at marketing and advertising that focuses a lot on trends and new campaign launches. Just a warning, they are post happy and slightly obsessed with campaigns or ads featuring half-naked women.
Brand Noise, which is published by scenarioDNA. Always good content here, again on big brand marketing campaigns and thoughts on branding in general.
Ypulse. I’ve been reading this blog, written by Anastasia Goodstein, for years. It’s where I get all my info on Gen Y. Did you know they love cell phones and iPods? I kid! Out of all the Gen Y resources I’ve encountered, this is by far the most comprehensive. Anastasia covers every topic you could ever want to know about teens, tweens, Gen Y and Gen X. I also like her personal posts, like the one she did the other day about her “media consumption diet.”

Heck yes. Adrants is a huge source of irreverent ad industry news, which is the best kind.
BrandNoise and YPulse are both new to me and fantastic. Thanks for those.
Also, though not a blog at all, I really dig scenerioDNA’s research reports.
